The objective of this work was to assess the potential of atmospheric methane to affect the reaction between selected combustion byproducts and atmospheric air. Oxidants selected were hydroperoxyl radical (HO(2)(*)) and its parent hydroperoxyl radical, hydroxyl radical (HO(*)), and atomic hydrogen (H). The concentrations of HO(2)(*), HO(*) and H were estimated from OH(*) concentrations using the direct and indirect kinetic methods. For decomposition of n-alkanes, HO(2)(*) and HO(*) were produced as a result of the oxidation of methane. For decomposition of cyclic hydrocarbons, HO(2)(*) was produced as a result of the oxidation of methane. For decomposition of aromatic hydrocarbons, a reaction with methane generated HO(2)(*), which was identified from the measurement of the concentration of benzene and its oxidation products (oxidation to phenol, oxidation to phenoxy radical). These results are consistent with the hypothesis that HO(2)(*) produced by methane combustion in the atmosphere is involved in the oxidative reactions with atmospheric air.The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly denounced the use of "double standards" by Western media and politicians with regard to Russia’s actions in Syria.
In its comment on the “west’s double standards on Russia’s actions in Syria”, the ministry notes that the most senior U.S. military and political figures are as interested in the further strengthening of the United States’ armed forces as in the settlement of the Syrian conflict.
